Restless leg syndrome

Here's a conundrum, is restless leg syndrome a diabetic symptom or a renal symptom? I know it's to do with nerve damage to your legs and feet but is it it sugar damage or something else, maybe an inbalance in blood chemistry? Anybody out there got any ideas?

I ask because I suffer from this and sometimes it keeps me awake at night when I'm trying to sleep. My renal consultant seems to think it might be linked to both conditions. Any nerve specialists out there who could possibly help?
 
I've been reading more and more that it is often caused by iron/ferritin deficiency. There are other threads on the subject on the forum.

Might be worthwhile having your ferritin levels checked.
