Hi
I've just done a test on my dad , (I bought a monitor as curious if I was diabetic.) Anyway the result was 15.2 . From a quick Google came across this page and it seems as though you are a great source for info . Is this reading high , he said hes had a slice of fruit cake this afternoon but even so I'm guessing it's still high ?

If it's one single reading from someone not familiar with testing, you can't assume it's 100% correct. Were hands washed before testing? Just a smidge of sugar (or cake) on a finger can skew readings. When in doubt, wash hands, dry wel, and test again.

People who are not diabetic should be able to eat a fruitcake without hitting a 15,2, so yeah.... It would be considered a high reading, if it is a correct one. Try again before a meal and 2 hours after the first bite. You want to know what he's starting from and where he's ending up. Then take those results to the doc and ask for a HbA1c test if readings are significantly higher than 9.0.

He'll be fine, whatever the results. You've found us already.
Take care,
Jo

Assuming hands were washed clean and he didn't have contaminated fingers (after picking up fruit cake and whatever else he may of touched that was sugary) then yes, that is high. I would of done a follow up test myself to validate that reading, sometimes a bad strip can throw out a very high or very low reading.

As an example, a few weeks back I tested and got 17.5.... I did two follow up tests and both came back at 7.
