It's a week since my first blood test 'to see why you have high blood pressure', and I'm now a certified diabetic. I've been given metformin and also lisinopril for kidney function and blood pressure.

I have been referred to a specialist unit at the local hospital, an ultrasound to check my innards, diabetic nurse appointment and appointment with my doctor to review a full liver work up and medication check. I know many people here have a tough time with their docs but I am so impressed by the speed care and attention that I've received so far. Long live the NHS.

So I don't know what type I am yet - I assume T2 but basically it looks like I've been diabetic for a very long time so my doc is being cautious and wants the specialists at the hospital to take over.

Because it's been undiagnosed for so long it looks like there's kidney problems - and my blood pressure is through the roof. There was also some liver indicators but have to wait and see what they really are, probably next week.

So - a bit of a mad week with highs and lows (badum-ch). Looking forward to really getting on with managing it all properly and getting healthy.

Glad to see you are being well cared for. I always have been and have never had any complaints (other than dietary advice).

Keep up your amazing positivity, and I hope you can be sorted out quickly. :)

Hi and welcome, Shucks. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago and yes, the tests are done quite quickly. I am sorry I cannot give you any advice but the good folk here will point you in the right direction, I am sure.

Hi Shucks,

I was diagnosed about 6 months ago but looking back it's probably been 1.5 years. After adopting the LCHF diet really strictly (and metformin) I was shocked just how quickly everything returned to normal and in just a few weeks I felt better than I had in years and years so hang in there :-)

Looks like we're about the same. I got my tests taken 2 weeks ago, actually. Just now starting to feel like things are getting back to normal, although the treatments are quite hard at first depending on how high a bg you are used to having. My first reading was 22 after breakkfast and I am now down to 5.5 post prandial! It was a bit stumping for my diabetes educator as I am only 25 (26 in aug) and it is a bit of a rare age to get either. Although there are increasing debuts in my age.

Yeah we seem pretty similar! I tested 5.8 today post pranial which is mad considering before I was on medication and before I was doing my best to keep sugar and carb intake down I was testing as high as 19. Still a lot of work to go seeing as I jumped from 6 to 16 after dinner yesterday.

Good luck fellow young mysteriously diabetic person :)

And to you too, my fellow mysterious person. I am sure that we will figure this out together, and this forum is great for finding out!
Also; I have noticed that excercising before the dinner really helped bring my post prandial down. Just a little 45-minute-walk. Just a little tip for starting up! But it can take days for it all to settle in. It took almost two weeks for me with them steadily sinking!
