I got my Hba1c results today. This was my first test 2 1/2 months after my diagnosis of prediabetes. My level has done down from 46 to 40. The GP was amazed and said it was the best result she had seen. She said what ever I had been doing was obviously working so carry on.

My cholesterol has also gone down although not quite so impressively. My total level has gone down from 6.9 to 5.6. The good cholesterol has gone up and the bad has gone down. My levels are:

triglyceride 1.22 mmol/l
HDL 1.3 mmol/l
LDL 3.7 mmol/l

so still a bit more work to do on my cholesterol

The GP said to get a retest in 6 months time but I asked if it could be done in 3 months to keep an eye on the cholesterol levels and also to keep me on track with my bs

I couldn't have done any of this without this forum and all of you on here so thank you so much to you all:)

Excellent work, keep it up! :)

Great progress Aqualung ! Although you may have taken advice, you've done the hard work !

That is really good news so well done .Your GP must approve of your low carbs diet then.....are you doing high fat to ??

Thank you everyone for your replies and encouragement.

Annie to be honest the GP didn't ask details of what I had done. She knew I had changed my diet and lost weight but that is all. I said I wanted to know what my cholesterol was as I was doing LCHF, she looked at me when I mentioned fat but didn't comment. She did say she doesn't know much about nutrition and my diet is probably better than hers! I have lowered my carbs (no bread, rice, pasta, potatoes) but not counting them so don't know how low they are. Same with fat, I am eating butter, full fat cheese, yoghurt but not sure if its high fat or not. My cholesterol has gone down and I will see what my cholesterol levels are in 3 months time and decide then what I do about full/low fat.

I think your wise getting it checked again in 3 months time aqualung, hope the cholesterol continue to drop and well done on the Hba1c :)

I have done more or less the same as you cutting out the starchy carbs like pasta rice and root veg but I can eat a couple of small slices of wholemeal toast with my breakfast without any impact on my BG
I have started to have some butter on my veg and some full fat greek yogurt but still struggle to get my head round high fat really it just goes against what I have been doing for years which is low fat so I am still buying reduced fat cheese and I don't eat red meat so I only have chicken turkey and fish. I only get a blood test once a year my GP says it is not necessary to have one more often than that. I have had a fasting blood test each year over the last nearly nine years since I had the GTT and found to be glucose intolerant and have been prediabetic in the last almost three years hopefully the diet will keep it at bay for a bit longer.
I don't understand all the figures in blood test results all I know is that my fasting glucose level was 6.8 and my cholesterol was 5.2 at my last test
