Just before Christmas I was told I was pre-diabetic on HbA1c of 45 mmol/mol. Since Christmas I have been on low carb diet (average of 50g a day) and testing my BG about every few days. I seem to have steady readings of about 5.5 mmol/L fasting and 6.5 mmol/L 2 hours after a meal. I am not sure how to interpret this as I am a real novice. I am not noticing any decrease over time. Any comments would be most helpful. Should I expect an improvement on these figures? I am not due for another HbA1c until next May.

The readings appear to be quite acceptable, and certainly no reason to worry yet.

Low Carb eating/lifestyle is a miracle cure, but not an instant one. It will take some time and the changes you will see will be small and gradual, but you are on the right path.

Good luck.

Readings at that level will have a positive effect on your hba1c, an average of 6.3mmol/L would return around 38 at hba1c. It would seem your changes are positive for sure.

Hi. I wouldn't expect a low-carb diet to improve on those readings as they are effectively non-diabetic. See what the HBa1C shows. At least the low-carb diet helps control weight.
