Met the practice nurse this morning and I think she's brilliant!

No change to hba1c since December 2015 (I didn't realise that I should be checked regularly) it is still 54 so I have maintained the reduction from 119 that I achieved after being told I had diabetes.

I have gained 14kg since December 2015 and I have actually gained 5kg since starting lchf. I think I like cream too much for my own good. I plan to carry on lchf but maybe have avocados and olive oil instead of cream and butter.

Cholesterol up from 4.3 to 5.0 with a 4.2 ratio. I need to get hdl up and ldl down which I may be able to do with exercise. I have been doing very little walking for the past four months but I will make an effort to exercise more.

I wasn't specific about diet. I said that I have cut out pasta, bread and rice and told her that I was never much of a sweet eater. I was offered metformin (on the grounds that it helps with weight loss) and a twelve week membership of Slimming World both of which I declined gracefully. I want to see what happens over the next twelve weeks with the lchf (minus the large quantities of butter and cream). I now have a clear baseline from which to measure changes.

My feet are healthy. My kidneys are in excellent shape, nurse said over 60 is good and mine is 90. Don't know what this means other than that I am doing well. Liver function test (CL27) - normal - no action. Don't know exactly what this means but it sounds good.

Asked about my childhood pancreatitis and she said that it wouldn't affect me now.

I am full of hope and optimism. I am grateful to everyone who has given me advice on the forum, I will continue to take your suggestions on board and hopefully I will see even better results in June. X

Well done Swiggy, you are on the right track. :)

Your cholesterol ratio is just above where it should be. (Needs to be under 4) but you can improve that for next time. Plenty of oily fish, avocado, olive oil, and foods with lots of Omega 3 plus at least 30 minutes exercise a day is the way to go. Walking is what I do.

The 60/90 thing is your estimated GFR which is the filtration rate of your kidneys. The goal posts moved a year or so ago. It used to be above 60. It is now above 90. Your 90 is excellent because they only measure up to 90, so you have top marks for that.

Did you get print outs or similar?

Yes @Bluetit1802 I have a print out giving all sorts of results and the nurse offered me metformin but I want to give lchf another three months. My hba1c (and everything else) could have gone up between December 2015 and December 2016 so I can't really see the effect of lchf yet. I plan to limit the butter and cream because I was having too much. I have bought 4 avocados today and I will carry on testing before and after new foods and look forward to seeing excellent results in June.
I am off to Berlin in May and our trip includes two walking tours of the city so I am going to start walking every day in preparation. X

Hi @Swiggy Congratulations on all you have achieved, definitely going in the right direction, except for the weight gain (grrrr!). Let's call it "negative weight loss" - it's rare on low carb. Diet Doctor, leading low-carber, has "18 Weight Loss Tips", find them here, https://www.dietdoctor.com/how-to-lose-weight
Hope this helps,

Thanks @sally and james. It will be coming off again, just watch this space. I have been overdoing butter and cream. It's one thing eating until you are satisfied but quite another eating until you feel sick ha ha. Butter and cream began to lose their appeal at the weekend when I drank so much creamy coffee I couldn't eat anything. X
