I have recently been diagnosed with retinopathy due to my high blood pressure and slso my high bloods. The past few months I have managed to lower both so hoping no lasting damage. I don't need further treatment just monitoring, and to ensure my BP is controlled along with my bloods. Not sure what this means, but they have said my visual activity in my right eye is 6/12 and left 6/9.5. Does anyone e u der stand this? I wasn't told this information during my appointment just read it I the letter they sent to me.

Hey @kjc2011
are they giving you any medications to treat the hypertension

retinopathy is a worry for D people with hypertension -- another visit to discuss with your GP would seem in order.

A visual acuity of 6/12 means that you can see at 6 metres distance what an
average person can see at 12 metres. Normal vision is, by defnition, 6/6.

Hi @himtoo i'm on various meds for blood pressure which gave recently been increased and I'm due my next HBA1C on 6th July so will find out how meds are doing then as nurse will do BP check also and fi gers crossed my HbA1c has improved as last time doc said maybe looking at insulin if no improvement. And thank you for that info @Dark Horse makes sense now

that is good you are being monitored -- keeping BP and BG's stable and low( within range ) are both really important in avoiding future retinopathy issues.
