A study was conducted amongst subjects with Type 2 diabetes in the age range 60-75 years.

The findings suggest that the severity of diabetic retinopathy is independently associated with cognitive dysfunction in people with Type 2 diabetes in this age range.

IMHO I would have liked them to conduct an experiment with the same age group without diabetes to see what their results were but I also think that it shows that good control lessens complications as there are many type 2's in this age group who do not suffer from retinopathy.

Does it affect cognitive behaviour, I think we need more trials to say with any certainty.

I agree they should check out the non-diabetics. I have background retinopathy, which I'm minimising, but I can still score really high on IQ tests. I do them for fun  PS I'm now 63

I too have background retinopathy, and reading this report worried me - bad enough being told you have cancer, diabetes and then might go blind only to discover you will loose ya marbles too. Pffft!

Give me a break!
