Hi
@Patrick1969 and welcome back. It's quite common for T1s (often occurs at diagnosis) but I was diagnosed very early by a T1 mum (who had DKA on her diagnosis) so haven't (yet) had it, though as I'm now on an insulin pump I'm now more at risk. But as a T1 I've always been aware of DKA as a potential issue and get prescribed ketone testing strips so I can easily check for it if my bg goes high. (And I do recognise the symptoms).
My understanding is that DKA is caused by lack of insulin, so tends to be less of an issue for newish T2s because they produce plenty of insulin. Can I ask whether you were already on insulin before you got the DKA? I'd naively hope that all insulin users got given ketone testing strips but realise that that may be optimistic.
I am glad you are feeling better now and agree that it is worth making other T2s aware of the issue.
