I was diagnosed with a mild reactive hypoglycemia with an ogtt a while back, I have a strong family history of diabetes and I did not want to get on that wagon by any means. I used to eat a lot of carbs and whatever carbs I could eat (gluten intolerant) since that diagnosis I've changed my diet completely to a low-ish carb (around 50-70) the rest filled with protein and healthy fats to see what changes I could see. Can someone tell me if this is normal behavior of blood sugar? I used to spike and go down a lot throughout the day but now it's been surprisingly stable.

Fasting: 92
2 whole eggs + gouda shredded cheese
2hr: 97
Brown rice (half a cup) with pork chops and veggies
1hr: 108
2hr: 106

The highest spike today has been 112 after eating a bit of ice cream (I used to spike to 170/180 on the first hour of eating a carb loaded food)

Is this behavior of blood glucose close to what a healthy person experiences? I have been feeling fantastic with this change of diet and stable glucose I even sleep the whole night (used to wake up with a little hypo+anxiety attack).

vontokkerths - Welcome to the forum. I'll tag @Brunneria who also has RH.

Hi and welcome!

Well done for discovering low carb, and how effective it can be. i'm delighted for you. :)

I do very well on it too. Feel good and have normal blood glucose. interestingly, I am gluten intolerant too. In my case, cutting the gluten has helped tremendously in reducing the RH, but it rears its ugly head again if i stray too far from the low carb gf, so i tend to think of it as 'controlled' rather than 'reversed'.

Hi @vontokkerths and welcome to the forum.

Even though you have a mild form of RH, it is still important to have good control of your blood glucose levels.

It is as simple as what you put in your mouth that dictates how your body handles the glucose and insulin. My first and second insulin response is not in balance if I overdo the carbs, so I don't!

It is surprising how your body reacts to very low carb, to us, they are not necessary and make us feel awful. So why eat them?

We do have our own unique sub forum, where the information is available. I'll ask @Brunneria to give you a link, or go to top of page and click on forums. Scroll down and you should come across the Reactive Hypoglycaemia forum.

Ask your questions, there are a few of us RH ers around.

Best wishes.
