I have lost a bit of weight from 83kg to 65kg. I have stopped using insulin with advice from diabetic nurse. Now my fasting glucose levels are between 6 - 7 mmols. I can never get them closer to 5 or between 4-6mmols. Any advice?

Have you recently had a hba1c test ? I had mine yesterday and gone from 74 down to 47 and I have lost 3 stone and reduced insulin down to 4 units per day and was told if I keep up the good work and get to under hba1c to 42 I will no longer be diabetic and be in remission .Seems like you are On the right track well done !!! and keep up the great progress you have made .

Numsku11 - Very well done on that fantastic progress, and coming off insulin.

When folks are trying to bring numbers down, they often find the fasting one is the last to come down. It certainly was for me. What's happening with your readings at other times of the day?

Congratulations on that weight loss and stopping the insulin!

I'd agree with comments regarding (morning) fasting levels being the last to come down. And this was my initial experience too.

However, over the last (almost!) seven years, I've learned to ignore them as they can range from low 5s to occasional highish 7s, depending on what my liver thinks I need in the way of a wake up fuel boost, and most importantly, they make virtually no difference to my HbA1cs which have been in the high normal/low end of pre-diabetic range (e.g. 40-43) for most of that time.

Best watch your carbohydrate consumption, and work with your before and after meal levels, which you do have some control over, and IMO will have far more impact on your overall HbA1c results.

Thank you al for your replies. Now I understand more about fasting levels. After meals I do get results between 6 to 8mmols and before other meals it does come between 5 and 6. My next HbA1c is at the end of October. I will know a bit more then and let you know. Meanwhile everyone be safe from current situation.
