Hi there,
I wanted to ask you guys about improving your glucose levels and potentially improving your eye health/reversing maculopathy?

My last screening said I have signs of maculopathy and so I’m very keen to do everything I can to improve my levels.
I understand that instant improved levels can damage further at first before it gets better… does anyone know anything more about this? For example, how long before it properly starts getting better etc?

My levels are the best they’ve ever been and I want to keep it up, but a bit worried as I’m being screened again in 2 months and just wondering if it might be improved by then or even worse maybe?

Thanks! Any tips or advice appreciated.
Jessica

Everyone is different some people heal faster than others, and there are more factors to healing in general than bg control alone

Age,diet,exercise,sleep all play a part

The only way you will know is when you get the tests done

Hi
I have also had it picked up on a test and was unaware that it could be reversed. Is this possible?

Hi
I am losing my vision after many years fighting against my diabetes when I was younger . I'm on injections in both eyes very 6 weeks to help me not to lose my sigh any more .
Good sugar levels healthy eating and exercise as much as you can . Motion is lotion . Lesson to them and hopefully you can win.
I really hope you revise it best of luck Scouse

Slightly off from the question asked, to which I don't know the answer save as posted already, I am just being recommended for an injection into my R eye for macular oedema. What are the pros and cons ? Is there an alternative?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Hi, I have been having injections in both my eyes for diabetic macular oedema, I’m sorry to say that I don’t think there are any alternatives. I believe it is important to have the injections done to stop the condition from getting worse, sometimes I can see a definite improvement in my sight for a while afterwards, I go to the clinic every 6-8 weeks and sometimes there is no leakage so no injections needed at that time, but I have been told it will never be completely cured.
I would also like you to know it’s not as horrible as it sounds having the injections!!
Good luck with your treatment

I discovered that I had diabetic macular oedema only after cataract surgery. after a worrying few months with no-one to ask what the future may hold I was eventually referred for Ozurdex implants into both eyes, one week apart, and the result has been amazing. Good luck.

I use Lutein Zeaxanthin. This was recommended to a friend for her age related maculopathy by her consultant. As I had been told I had some spots of diabetic maculopathy, I thought it worth a try. At my next clinic they had disappeared.

I am about a year into the 3 monthly back of eye photographs as showing some macular deterioration, and this last time asked the two technicians ( one doing eye drops and eye test , the other with camera) if I ever got to see a dr. to advise on how to stop/ improve deterioration. Just got told where I live ( North Cumbria) we are at the front of diabetic eye care, and other Trusts are learning from them…. Not 100% sure whether this is superior, or cheaper, care… My HbA1c has been ok for decades, but the last 4 1/2 years I have Long Covid with high BP/HR ( though postural hypotension too) that 4-5 hypertensives hardly touch. So I too would like to know ways to reduce potential eye damage, had heard say vit A drops good ( but being careful of over dosing).

A similar story here.
I take Lutein Zeaxanthin.
Have done since 2019.
If anyone is interested, then Key in 'Lutein Zeaxanthin' into Google, and you will find loads of stuff and advice on it.
I take the tablets.
I also grow tree kale and tree cabbage ('tree' because I have marauding badgers which dig up anything I plant on the ground).
