Reward/comfort foods

I thought we could make a useful resource of foods we now use that are low carb to replace the reward/comfort foods we used to have.

What made me think of this, is my wee one came home tonight not feeling very well, she didn't want any dinner, just her bed. Usually I would have warmed up a tin of soup (preferably Heinz chicken) and tried to tempt her with that. Since I started low carbing, I have not bought tinned things at all, so no chicken soup. I could have popped to the village shop and grabbed a tin, but I though I would see if I could make some thing to tempt her. I ended up making a fruit smoothy. I used half a pint of single cream, and added blueberry's, raspberry's and a large handful of strawberry's, all whizzed up in the blender. She loved it. A short while later she came downstairs to give me a huge hug and to say how much she loved the smoothy. I think that beats chicken soup.

What have you devised as reward/comfort foods?

the almond cup cakes that I mentioned on the coconut flour thread.
a mixture of strawberries, sugar free jelly and splash of double cream
2 pieces 85% chocolate (with no added sugar peanut butter spread on if I'm feeling VERY bad)

sweet tooth??? moi????

I have had to stop baking my almond cakes, as I was eating far too many of them and the calories per slice/muffin are horrendous. Ironically I didn't have a particularly sweet tooth pre diagnosis

I'm allowing myself a bit of leeway at the moment. Work is VERY busy and stressful and I need to get my levels down, so that's what I'm concentrating on mostly. Having said that, I'm keeping a close eye on my weight and making sure nothing goes back on. I restrict myself to 2 small fairy cakes a day.

As an extra special treat I have 2 pieces of 85% chocolate melted and mixed with a couple tablespoons of double cream poured over homemade ice cream with a couple of strawberries sliced up thinly as a garnish.

Made this recently to round off a celebration meal and just the incredulous reaction of my friends and family on seeing me tuck into this decadent looking dessert cheered me up no end. I did let them have a small portion but with them watching the calories I had a larger portion than most of my other guests.

I love win win situations.

There are always positives in negatives

Creamy 'wiflib' soup with a chunk of buttered bread
or
rice pudding (dont ask!! its fake, but it really does taste of rice pudding) with a sprinkle of splenda and cinnamon
or
a hug in a mug = hot chocolate made with cream

Hot chocolate with cream! Lovely stuff! :D

It sounds a weird comfort food but sometimes I just like to cook up a LOAD of frankfurters and just sit there, dipping them in mustard along with a bottle of good quality real ale and a good DVD! I am a bit strange though!

Ahem. :silent: ...

Only kidding. I am of the savoury tooth and a total crisp addict, I can't have one or two so have now stopped buying them. I should admit I have stopped buying them after one of my "blips" recently but I have stopped all the same.

I tried the cheese "crisps" that were mentioned here before. Nice but too, erm, cheesy. I'm afraid that i like far too much salt than is good for me as well. Salami is quite good for hitting the spot, blue cheese too but I do struggle..food and I do not have a healthy relationship!

Those in the know, cant remeber if I asked this before but is home made popcorn very carby?

As a savoury eater i must admit that eating a whole roast chicken (small) gives immense satisfaction.
I sometimes just have that with a small bit of salad for a quick dinner and the salty, crispy chicken skin is a treat in itself.
