I shall watch it!
Thanks for the heads up
I enjoy watching these things, but I rarely eat any "manufactured" foods. Anyway I read the nuttrition label, before putting them back on the supermarket shelf and continuing on to the fresh food counters.

Snap.

I didn't eat much sweet stuff really but I had a slight fondness for Aldi chocolate cornettos...99p for 4 and they were lurvely. I only used to eat one a week but I do miss them.....

I shop in Aldi. The only things I can't get from Aldi is liver, boil in the bag kippers and Burgen bread.

Then I have to go to Tescos and I hate the shop anyway and have noticed that Aldi is much cheaper.

If I spend £20 in Aldi the same would cost me £30 in Tescos.

I enjoy these progs too ands there seem to be quite a few on at the moment.

Watched it and surprised that bran flakes contain 20-30% sugar. Glad I don't eat bran flakes. Apparently they recommended Shredded Wheat and Weetabix as a more natural cereal for breakfast.

Shredded wheat is the lowest at 0.7g of sugar per 100g weight with Weetabix at 4,4g of sugar (1g per biscuit) and Traditional porridge oats has 1g of sugar per 100g. The recommended serving size for most cereals is 40g.

What surprised me was the public's reaction to the sugar content in some of the well known brands, where did they think the sweetness came from and do they never check the nutritional information on the side of the packets? The story on manufacturers replacing sugar for fat in low-fat products was old news, still it's a good programme investigation the food industry as is Food Unwrapped on C4.

Scary to see what the food industry is doing to our food, supermarkets flogging some truly nasty stuff, its alarming to find that so many people take no note of ingredients.
Some 'foods' come straight out of the laboratory, eg ingredients of a chocolate pudding mix, albeit sugarfree, but seriously does this sound appetising;
Modified Potato Starch,Maltodextrin ,Vegetable Oil ,Whey Powder ,Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder ,Modified Maize Starch ,Emulsifiers (Propane-1,2-diol Esters of Fatty Acids, Sunflower Lecithins) ,Gelling Agents (Tetrasodium Diphosphate, Disodium Phosphate) ,Milk Proteins ,Colours (Plain Caramel, Mixed Carotenes) ,Flavourings ,Anti-caking Agent (Silicon Dioxide) ,Sweetener (Sucralose)

Small wonder there is so much disease around us, amazing what some people stuff into their bodies, they put better fuel into their cars.

I am very angry with the food industry.

Next episode of Rip Off Food is tonight at 7.30 on BBC 1.

Same time as Corrie so I will be watching on catch up after Masterchef...

Gloria Hunniford unearths more tricks used by some food manufacturers and supermarkets, and the hidden rip-offs that could be lurking in the average consumer's fridge. She reveals the foods that promise top quality but deliver much less - including the cod that turned out to be Vietnamese catfish - and asks what really goes into a bottle of olive oil

Will put up a catch up link a bit later.
