rise in BG after breakfast and symptoms

Hi,

Was just wondering whether any one else gets this, about two hours after breakfast i start to feel really tired, so i started doing my BG and found when i feel like this my BG is high thought this was more asymptom of a hypo not a hyper. I have realised also that this depends what i eat for breakfast, bananas on my ceral seem to be a no no. :?:

Hi there

You may have to have a re-think about breakfast. Banana can be a big factor in raising your BG - other fruits like berries or a small apple might be better.

Also, most cereals can make the BG go up as well.

Hyper symptoms can be akin to those of a hypo, I think.

You'll find lots of breakfast suggestions on the forum. My favourite is almond porridge - or greek yogurt, or a boiled egg and a thin crisp bread, or bacon and egg and tomatoes etc. There are alternatives to cereals and they don't spike the BG as much.

Good luck!

Thanks Cathy for you advice, will try some f your suggestions but don't think i will be trying yogurt for breakfast just cause i can't stomach the thought of eating it for breakfast fine any other time.

Yogurt with nuts and fresh fruit is good. Banana is fairly high glycemic load but berries are the best. I've found a low carb. yogurt, one made with whey, it's pretty good but a US brand. Some people do fine with a little oatmeal with as much fat milk as you can take. You can always eat omega-3 eggs and low fat meats like ham. No cold cereal or wheat products is a good idea as these spike your blood as much as the same weight of table sugar. Try to put protein in your body first, then fats, then some carbs. Hopefully you won't want much carbs. by then. Add cinnamon to everything you can. Grapefruit is the lowest glycemic fruit and is considered a superfood because of it positive health effects. Grapefruit with cinnamon may even lower your blood sugar. Grapefruit and egg for breakfast will lower blood LDL cholesterol, sugar, and insulin. You can buy a whole book on the health benefits of grapefruit, an ideal food for diabetics.

Thanks robertconroy - for the suggestions but i tried eating yoghurt at breakfast time and i cannot face it makes me feel sick thinking about it and my stomach just churns after eating it for breakfast, can eat it any other time. As for grapefruit have never eaten it as i don't like it. Will just have to give the ceral up and try the protien approach and maybe a bit of toast or not, see how that works.

Be very wary of grapefruit if you are taking statins.

I have a 2-egg omelette every morning for breakfast. Sets me up for the day, my BGs are stable, and I'm never hungry before lunchtime.
