Hi, everyone, I am new to this forum, living with type 2 diabetes for several years now. So I decided recently to do intermittent fasting, So I had lunch yesterday about 1pm, levels spiked to 17, took 10 Units Novorapid, anyway it stayed around seventeen until dinner time so I skipped that, it fell to 9.6 and stayed there all evening and during the night until around 7 am when I checked my GL and they had doubled to 18. This happens all the time, go to bed with normal levels then wake up and they are high. Is it normal to have this and is the body releasing glucose naturally, is it medication wearing off. I don't want to take breakfast as I don't want to spike the GL to over 20+ which sometimes happens. Thanks for any advice in advance.

Hi and welcome.

On the information you've provided, it does look like the rises when fasting are probably caused by your liver making glucose. This may be because it is accustomed to higher levels as being your "normal" and is doing its best to get you back to where you usually are.

It took my liver several months to adapt to overall reduced levels as a "new normal", and it generally seems to be a fairly slow process. If your overall levels stay high, your liver will probably continue to accept that as "normal".

I think there might also be a question to be addressed about your insulin, but as I have no experience with that I'll let someone who knows more comment on that aspect.
