Rising BG levels

I'm type 2taking 2x500 Metformin and following a very low carb diet and lots of exercise. Since diagnosis last April my HbA1c results have been 7.2, 5.8, 5.7 and 5.7. Before Christmas my 30 day average was 5.1 testing frequently. Since Christmas my averages have crept up and my last 30 day score was 6.2, very disappointing as I have set a personal target of always being under 6.0. I am doing nothing different in my diet, exercise or meds. I went to see my GP who said I should be delighted with anything under 7.0 but didn't see my point that 7.0 is where I'm heading if I don't find the underlying cause of this upward trend. Anybody out there got any explanation that might help me? I'm 68, so maybe it's just old age! :|

No. As I said, she thought everything was better than ok, that my readings were great, and that i was being too strict with myself! I'm going back if my BG keeps rising and I'll ask if there might be another underlying condition but to be honest that's what I thought would have been her concern in the first place. Thanks for getting back to me.

Hi Frandia

It is a good idea to keep an eye on things but your numbers are good! 8) The difference is not great at the moment and may even just be a Christmas blip. :?

Perhaps you just need to relax a bit more as stressing can put up your numbers.

i would wait and see what your nxt hba1c is, i had a blip like this and it was bk to normal on the nxt test :D

Hi frandia,

I find that my 14 and 30 day average varies a little bit both up and down. That's as I'd expect because so much depends on the time that I have been testing in relation to when and what food you have eaten.

Despite these small changes in the average on my meter my HbA1c has been consistently trending downwards as follows: 8.5% > 6.8% > 5.7% > 5.5% > 5.3% > 5.3% > 5.1% - and, what's more, it's still heading that way I suspect.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about small changes like that. Just keep on track because you sound as though you are certainly on the right track.

Best wishes - John
