Risk associated with Surgery

Many thanks for your wishes, you must have known that I've signed up for the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers 2015 and this time next year I will be sailing from Grand Canaria to St Lucia, a passage of just less than 3 weeks, on a 45 foot yacht called Four Seasons, with her Skipper and First Mate (skipper's wife), also her owners plus another 3 crew. I'm growing old (62 so far) disgracefully and fully intend to make good use of my new knees. I grew tired of being told that I was too young for a knee replacement that might only last 10 years (my surgeon operates on 25 year old replacements, does a sort of refurbishment job) so I found one that is warranted for 35 years, then I had to find a surgeon who knew how to fit it, so if I last another 25 years, they might end up on eBay. LOL I haven't quite worked out when to get back on my skis, but I'm having to give up bungy jumping, sky diving, and hang gliding. LOL

Did you realise today is the start day for the ARC, for those going direct (Gran Canaria > St Lucia)? Those going via Cape Verde left a few days ago. So, you have a year to get into tip-top condition for the big adventure.

What are your please, post-St Lucia? Continue cruising or fly back?

I have screws and a plate in it...think I have 9 screws! It took about a year to heal I guess...it's okay now but not perfect...my own fault though, didn't stick to the exercises! The only thing is I cant stretch it as much like if you sit on your feet if that makes any sense lol!

I. Have found hospital staff overcautious in the days following surgery. They wanted to test my BG far too many times a day. This was usually done by a health care assistant, without much clinical training, who then made decisions on what I should have to eat, and changed medication. Took no notice when I told her that BG had been well controlled for 2 years, and was low because I had not eaten for 3 days.

I would have eaten her!
 
My last experience of hospital was that they wouldn't allow me to keep hold of my insulin... Because they know better...

Well I was broke my ankle in the April and was off of school and didn't go back until September and I was walking fine then but didn't go back to doing PE till about November lol!
