2 simple questions.
1) Is every insulin dependent type 2 at risk of having a hypo at some point?
2) Should they carry something with them in case this happens?

Thanks.

Everyone on insulin is at risk of hypos and most definately carry some fast acting carbs with you. I keep some in my car, at work, my husbands car and my purse. Luckily I have not needed them in a very long time. I keep sweet tarts. 1 sweet tart is 1 carb and raises me about 7. At least they did the last time I needed them. I have since greatly reduced carbs which also allowed me to greatly reduce insulin so I have little fear of going low unless the pen malfunctions.

At no time was the danger, or even possibility of a hypo, discussed with me when my daughter was put on insulin in her teens. Maybe because her levels were so high they thought it unnecessary.
Or maybe because she has learning difficulties, they don't think her care is so important:(

Hi @signing73, nice to meet you:).

@noblehead, yes, it is disappointing, and by the sounds of it, dangerous. She was under the care of an Endo and a DSN at hospital, and although lovely, they never mentioned once the possibility that my daughter could be in any danger.

She now lives in a private hospital/care facility, and they don't have a clue either. People with learning disability are vulnerable, and often seem to be unsupported. It really is frightening:(

I understand your fear - it frightens me too - it seems we have to fight so **** hard for everything for our adult children with special needs - I hate thinking of the future once we are gone who will fight for them then - just wanted to let you know I know what it's like and send you a hug ((()))

Hi. Yes & Yes. When I was on max dose Gliclazide before insulin I was never warned by anyone at the surgery about the risk of hypos with it and not offered a meter to test. Fortunately from that perspective my pancreas was knackered enough by then to not generate enough insulin to go hypo.
