For anyone thats interested Dr Robert Lustig can be heard on iplayer, radio 4 PM. About halfway through the program he talks about sugar being added to food and how its contributing to diabetes.

I think Lustig has a lot to tell us about nutrition. I do have reservations about his belief that gucose is a good sugar.

Ps there's a lecture by Lustig on you Tube. I can't remember the link, but it shouldn't be hard to find if anyone wants to.

Sorry? Identifying the unique biochemical properties of fructose as the cause of metabolic syndrome, obesity and diabetes is his claim to fame whilst the rest is pretty standard advice (eat more fibre and avoid processed foods). He even has a correlation to show that sugar (the main source of dietary fructose in our diets) correlates with obesity and diabetes!

I read up on some of this chaps work.
It did strike me somewhat department of the bleedin obvious.
Each to their own though folks..

I have been surprised that this has even been questioned. After the war in germany when food was in short supply, many people ate sugar as sugar beet had been grown in large quantities to produce alcohol for fuel. The incidence of diabetes rose dramatically.

Interesting find! White sugar is a refined product, and therefore like most processed foods, the nasties are introduced. Look up cheap soya!
