Hey all I'm booked In to go indoor rock climbing on Thursday, is it wise to phone them up before hand and tell them I'm diabetic? I don't want to turn up and for any reason be told I can't do it.

Stu

They usually ask you to fill out a form disclosing any medical conditions so probably wise, but I doubt they'll have a problem with it. You'll enjoy it, its great exercise and load of fun.

As 'Thommothebear' says ring them up, if you're having instruction it's probably important for the instructor to know.
I'm been with my children and grandchildren several times and have really enjoyed it. (three generations playing together, can't be bad :D )

Yes, it'd be a good idea to ring up before you go. They shouldn't have a problem with it and you're most likely not going to be the first person to go there with diabetes. Just remind the instructor on the day and make sure they know how to deal with anything that might go wrong.

Have fun!

Hi I've been quite a few times with my friends, i didn't have to fill anything out as it was just like using the swimming pool etc, might be differnt if you're getting lessons. enjoy it it's really fun even if you are rubbish like i am and keep falling off!

I am sometimes a little bit dubious about telling people I am Type 1 when doing activities such as this.

A few years ago I went to Australia scuba diving and went on a liveaboard. Despite having dived regularly for years with authenticated log book etc and a doctors certificate saying I was able to dive they told me that their insurance wouldn't cover it despite me checking in advance.

So basically I was stuck on a boat for 3 days only being allowed to snorkel and made to feel a complete prat. I was refunded some of the cost eventually but it really upset me.

Now I just don't bother bringing it up and just ensure I test during any major activity like this. I also don't like bringing it up at all due to people's perceptions about what you are able to do and not do. It's a shame but just be prepared for rejection sometimes if you play by the rules. I don't think you will doing this but you never can tell.

Can't see having diabetes being a problem but it's always better to mention it just to be safe.
