Hi All

I was diagnosed in 2010 although not really given a type as I had symptoms of both 1 and 2. I immediately began a very low/no carb diet and was taking Metformin and had great results. I was so strict with myself that I fell off the wagon and for the next year carried on as though I was not diabetic. I recently started to feel ill and had to admit it was time to get serious. So that's the past and I cannot change it and I know I have been stupid.

I have struggled with the stomach upset side of Metformin but have had to change to Glicazide 160mg am and pm and Trajenta 5mg am. Nothing is touching my figures now. Fasting are 14-16 climbing to high 20's at night. I am on an urgent referral to the hospital but the DN has decided to start me on a low dose of insulin whilst I am waiting for me to slowly raise the dose as I check my sugars to try and find a level.

Is there any advice you can give me as I begin my new journey on insulin?

Hi and welcome,
We have all fallen off the wagon so don't beat yourself over it at least you have realised you now need to get it sorted. I was diagnosed at the age of 6 yrs old and am now 43.
What insulin have they put you on.
I wasn't a well controlled diabetic until about 7 years ago, but i have suffered some side effects.
At least you are seeking help.
All i can say is test your bs regular and keep a record of what you eat and what your bs were at the time.
You may find you need to eat small but more regular meals and adjust your insulin slowly. Try not to inject in the same spot all the time.
When my sugars are high i find if you can do a 20 min walk i find it can bring my bs levels down a bit.
Hope this helps for now.
Keep in touch if you wish.
Remember we can only go by our own experiences.
Take care
Tracey
