hey, so my dads diabetic, so are his mum and dad, and my grandad ( on my mums side), i was wondering how high are the chances that im a diabetic? or will develope diabetes, im 16 ( nearly 17 ) ride my bike every day, and have an insanley unhealthy diet. Im talking burger king every day for lunch, couple packets of haribo big bottle of lucazade, and generaly other junk food.

thanks

On the other hand some families have clusters of Type 1 diabetes along with other autoimmune diseases and many families have clusters of Type 2 along with other forms of cardiovascular disease. Then there are the MODYs

One side of my family is riddled with insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome with genuine diabetics scattered throughout. The other side has none, except one of my father's brothers was Type 1.

I'm the third , possibly the fourth T2 in a direct line. Me, Mother and Grand mother definitely and probably my great-grandmother and my mother's sister.
Since my mother and I are the only ones to be living in Britain and I am the only one involved in British culture, I suggest that the genetic link is stronger than the environmental one in our case.

hey,

thanks for all the replys, i dont know why ive become so obsessed with it.

some more about me: i can will put on like 4-5 pounds, then the next day ill be back down to 10 stone, i ride atleast a mile a day, i sweat alot, i eat stupid amounts of food but am allways still hungry, my hands and feet are allways really cold, and it takes me ages to fall asleep, and i do pee rather alot.

would you lot suggest getting regular checks just to be on the safe side? or is it not worth it?

thanks

Hi sammy.

I would certainly want regular checks in your position. By changing your eating habits now you could save yourself a lot of grief later.

Catherine.

wow, what i diffrence 2 days of a healthier diet makes... i feel like hell,my eyes ache, i cant ride my bike for long, in insanley tired, have a massive head ache and a really dry mouth

ive basicly just cut out most of the really fatty foods, am drinking more water/ juice instead of coke and lucozade, and am eating fruit to. do you think this is a normal reaction or what?

Sounds like you're doing the opposite of what you need to do. You're eating less fat and more carbs and the carbs are turning to glucose faster as a result.
