Rybelsus advice please

Hi everyone,

I'm T2, have been taking Dapagliflozin 10mg and Sitagliptin 100mg, my last HBA1C had reduced from 70 to 60 thanks to the medication but my diet and eating have been very bad over the last few months due to serious mental health issues. I had an appt with DN a few days ago and she was happy with the last results but when I explained about my concern about my eating and particularly that I am hungry constantly and cannot stop eating she decided that putting me on Rybelsus was the way to go.
I had asked about Mounjaro (buying it privately, not through NHS) but she advised against it because my mental health has been so bad and she didn't know how it would affect me. I can understand that and am very grateful that she has been able to prescribe me something that can be properly monitored to see how I am while taking it.
I did try this medication about a year ago and had terrible headaches but she's told me to try and tolerate this for 4 weeks and come back to see her to see how I'm doing, also to take lots of water to stay hydrated. She's taken me off the Sitagliptin but I'll continue to take the Dapagliflozin with the Rybelsus. Does anyone take this medication who can give me any advice on it? Have you experienced bad side effects and how was the appetite suppression? Thanks in advance for any advice with this. I'm nervous to start it but I know I need to do something about my eating.

I was on Rybelsus and it had a small impact with me. Not enough of an impact anyways. It did suppress my appetite a bit and the side effects were not that bad to start with and even subsided after a month. The worst bit is the taste, the nastiest pill I have ever taken, but that is just me. And the taste is gone quickly, not a reason to not take it.

I've been on Rybelsus since January 2025 (and before that on the Ascend Plus trial until I was randomised into the placebo). For me, it definitely has an appetite suppressant factor, and it makes me feel full much sooner than I was before and I stop eating then. I also take Canigliflozin (Dapaglifozin's cousin). I haven't experienced headaches on Rybelsus, so can't comment on that. I've lost over 3 stone in weight. My only downside with it is that I experience lightheadedness when standing up quickly as it lowers blood pressure and I don't have high blood pressure. It has done wonders for my HbA1c and I am now at non-diabetic levels. What I would suggest, if you haven't already taken them up on the offer, would be to get a free trial of a CGM from Dexcom, Freestyle Libre and Allycgm so you can see how it is affecting your blood sugar levels.

I've been on Rybelsus twice, the first time up to maximum dosage, but it did nothing for me, either for appetite suppression or reduced BG. That said, we're all different and also Tirzepatide only worked for about 3 months for me. Nothing seems to supress my appetite for long. Good luck, though, hope it works for you.
