Oh the foot.....
Stopped antibiotics 6 weeks ago. Started all to flare uo 2 weeks ago. My Lis Franc joint (part of midfoot/forefoot junction) started to dislocate on last weeks xray. Looks like Charcot arthropathy, but went to see nationally recognised expert in Edinburgh yesterday. He is still convinced it is infection in the foot. So back to my Aircast boot . Having a special splint made to fit inside my bespoke shoes. Back on antibiotics. Starting linezolid (Zyvox) tomorrow morning for 3 weeks. Costs £800 per week - usually used for MRSA infections. After 3 weeks back to use clindamicin and ciprofloxacin for 6-12 months.
Looks like I might need a further partial amputation of the medial ray leaving 4th and 5 th toes only. But not just yet. I am holding off the hyberbaric oxygen therapy for the moment- but that has been approved if needed (£36,000). Costing us all a fortune at the moment. But glad to be back at work.
The problem with linexolid is that I have to avoid tyramine. No wine or beer, caviar, old meat, mature cheese, soya products, avocados, red plums, marmite etc.
My diabetologist almost convinced to giving me Byetta on top of my insulin. Problem is I have lost 1 and half stone since Easter. I need to really convinve him.
Here's hoping.
