Hi all.

I do love salad (good job really) but it's not the most exciting meal really is it? Now I used to eat mine with hummus or coleslaw etc on the side..on a bad day the potato salad hit the plate too.

I have a ton of herbs etc but I would really like something to go at the side of my salad, is coleslaw ok or not? I try not to take too much mayo (too rich) but know that salad cream is full of sugar.

Any ideas on how to make a little dip or something to spice it up a bit? Tips apprciated, ta.

I'm not a fan of coleslaw etc, but I do add things like oily fish (Mackerel or pilchards), meatballs or cut up chipolata sausages, or other cooked meats like Hungarian paprika sausage.

People who think they are always right and ram their opinions down your throat. No-one knows everything. Those who shout loudest are usually the ones who actually know the least.
I eat salad with leaves, onions, little tomatoes and a pepper twice a day. I have either very-low fat salad cream or soy sauce on it.

I love coleslaw with my salad, my wife makes her own which is much better than any shop bought brand.

I used to use casear dressing (full fate) which is low carb and tasty but I have been putting on a bit of weight so was looking for a low cal alternative

I have today found "Salad Light" casear spray dressing (same brand as "fry light" which I have used to cook with). Less than 1 calorie a spray and only trace carbohydrates. 10 sprays is plenty on a salad and still not even half a gram of carb.

They also do a spray "balsamic dressing". Again very low calorie and very low carb (if any).

Might be worth a go.

They are new products - I have not seen them before and am always looking for new things to try!

ladybird - I serve a green salad = mixed leaves, few cherry tomatoes, sliced spring onions, grated radish and
herb drizzled with vinaigrette and oil

If the salad is a main course, I add a spoon of the following to the basic salad as described above
mushrooms a la greque (I know its old fashioned but still ever so tasty)
cucumber salad (thinly slice or grate, but not too fine, the cucumber, add salt, leave to stand for 15 minutes, drain off liquid, mix sour cream, clove of garlic, crushed, pinch of sweetener, lemon juice, pepper in a bowl, stir in cucumber and plenty of chopped fresh dill)
baba ganoush
guacamole
marinated olives and cubes of feta cheese mix
coleslaw - home made, I grate in a red or yellow pepper
tbsp of hummous (a small amount wont make you spike?)

And then add whatever I am having with the sald. ham or cheese or whatever or a slice of bread and butter (I bake my own lc bread)
I dont buy any of these ready made, but you can get some from the deli counters if home made is not your style
