Hi bunnay and welcome to the forum.

If you can get your blood sugars down then you will loose the taste. The thirst is because your blood sugars are too high.

Tell us a bit about yourself and we will try to help.
What was your last HBA1c?
Do you have any other health problems?
A typical day's menu
Do you do any exercise?
Are you on any medication?

This link to advice for newly diagnosed may be of some help to you.

Ask any questions you may have and somebody will answer.

I also had nasty taste in my mouth to some considerable time after I was diagnosed diabetic. They do get better as your blood sugar goes down! I just had to keep drinking water or something else to take the taste away! Not very helpful, I know, but keep working on getting the sugar down, you will feel better!

hi, welcome

please dont accept the need for you to start on insulin unless it suits you to do so, im not saying it isnt going to be necessary but with some advice you may be able to turn things around without it, as catherine says please give us some info, just in case we can do something to help, for all i know, you are already doing everything possible, but if not....

My bloods have been high for the last to years regardless of taking tablets and changing diet it has just got worse. So I am looking at insulin as a real last resort but still have to see what the consultant suggests

Possibly try mouth washing, mine was awful when diagnosed , i found peppermint tea helped get rid of the taste:)

Hey bunnay, hope you're doing ok. If you don't have one please get a Blood Glucose Meter and test your levels regularly it doesn't matter what your GP says, YOU need to know what affects your levels.

I've been testing for the last week and one thing I've found is that fruit sends my blood glucose sky high, maybe cut down on the fruit?
