Hey guys I might have to vistit saudi for work purposes, anyone been there and had problems? either diabetes wise or being female? :shifty:

Never been Engineer, but the heat will effect your insulin so be careful, also heat can effect bg levels too and you may find you'll need less insulin to avoid hypo's, when I holiday abroad in a hot country I have to reduce my insulin.

Yes I thought as much, Was more concerned about having insulin taken off me or something like that. thanks

Hi enginner88, take a friendly advice, keep away from Saudi Arabia, especially if you are female.

You will regret it

I've been to Oman, but prior to diabetes. It is similar to Saudi. As a young, blonde female (17 at the time) I got plenty attention but none negative.

If you carry the correct medical evidence letters I see no reason for you to have an issue with the needles.

Be sure to bring clothes to cover to your elbows and knees. Linen trousers were great for me (I was there for 3.5 weeks)

I lived in the Emirates for a number of years and worked in Saudi quite a lot, though it is a while ago now.
As Hale710 says, make sure you have the correct medical paperwork, perhaps multiple copies. Also I'd suggest making sure that the company you are working for are aware of your diabetes as they and their sponsor should be able to ease your arrival.

As a woman you will have to be careful, especially regarding clothing. Do your homework & make sure you know the rules. Have a look at web pages describing other people's experiences. e.g. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/15/busin ... .html?_r=0
The Saudis really are much stricter than Oman. I'd love to go back to Oman sometime, can't say the same about Saudi. It is an experience though.

Make sure you have some means of keeping your insulin cool as the heat will be a problem.
Hope this helps.
Robert

Thanks so much for your replies.

I really don't have a choice if I want to progress. It may not be easy but I'm sure I can cope a week.

I've seen trousers are banned for women, and skirts have to be floor length. Also a wedding ring helps.

My company are all too aware of my diabetes don't worry.

Thanks for the insulin cooler hadn't thought of that

I didn't know trousers were banned in Saudi! My friends grew up there and never mentioned it. Learn something new every day

He was in his car driving home..... Wearing shorts. He was pulled over for no reason. The police decided they wanted to arrest him for no reason. They asked him to step out of the car. He reminded them it was illegal for him to wear his shorts outside and so it would be illegal to get out of his vehicle. They said get out or they'll make him. He got out...... Then they arrested him for wearing shorts outside lol

That was 30 years ago though
