Yeah I am type 1 and have been for 14 years now..it's horrible the constant dizziness, feeling sick..can't lead a normal life some days I can't even get out of bed just wondered if anyone else suffers with it? Also had severe swelling of both feet and ankles yet the doctors don't seem interested
Hi, you say about swelling feet, have you had your annual foot check up? Did he show any drop in sensation or resonfor puffiness? Have you been advised to do anything with regards your feet ?
In what way are you being affected by autonomic neuropathy-- as you mention not feeling able to get out of bed and sick feelings, but to be honest I'm a bit confused as to why these are being linked to AUtonomics......
Withthese feelings are you able to keep your bloods in normal range, as this can add to feeling rubbish.
Sorry I'm not much help at the moment, I suffer pain but not related to diabetes, so I have just discovered.... Sick n stuff I have never associated with autonomic neuropathys....
I have lots of symptoms hence why my doctor diagnosed it..very low blood pressure heart rate is always 120+ problems with bladder can't control blood sugars the list is endless..I also have neuropathy in my feet so have no feeling in my feet..I've never had a foot check up as never been offered it and didn't know they did them..sometimes I struggle getting out of bed because the dizziness is too much to handle
Claire
Are you inder a consultant with your diabetes?
As a basic standard you should have your feet checked for pulses annually.
With getting out of bed, I know it sounds stupid but many people try to do as if they were kids.. Up and out within a second. You have pronably done this, but it is worthwhile persevering with raising yourself out of bed slowly... Lifting side of body on to elbow height for a minute, then to sitting upright on edge of bed for two minutes. Thebworst bit should then be getting from sitting to standing. This is sometimes improved by using a walking stick to push up on slowly, and I mean slowly. If you get the same when sat in a lounge chair and rising, then it would be worth considering an electric rising chair and this because of its slow speed and not forcing the brain to adjust many things-it can help.
It is rotten having side effects from diabetes... But you should be getting more help from diabetic consultants really than relying upon a Gp who can really only give you 6 minutes of listening time at an appt and 4 minutes for diagnosing and putting stuff on computer.....
Has your consultant and hospital not checked that you are at least getting your feet and eyes checked once a year? What help are you getting to deal with these problems?
Yes it's horrible but I suppose it's a big part of my life now..I have tried getting out of bed slowly probably even slower than you've recommended and it just makes me feel loads worse then makes me panic so then feel like I'll also collapse too..I don't see anyone when I was last in hospital I was told id receive an app and never received it..my gp has also wrote to them also asking to be sent an app but no success! Honestly feel terrible and so low and depressed..thanks for your help
Trying to get an appt Claire.. Find out from GP which consultant he has written to and phone the consultants secretary.... Easiy done just by phoning up the main switchboard at the hospital. Or contact PALS at the hospital and tell them your difficulties to get an appt and they will have to log it and action...
I feel for you with the dizziness getting out of bed... Do you get it when getting out of a chair etc as well? My only other suggestion, which is an expensive one unfortunately is to look at an electric raising bed... Or a cheaper option of keeping your head more raised at night when sleeping so more pillows. As then you may find that your brain does not have the sudden impact that it is trying to fight against. When you are sat upright in a chair do you feel dizzy?
By keeping gour head more raised at night it may give you less swirling....
I take it that your gp has ruled out vertigo and examined your ears etc.
Your gp should have a diabetic clinic where they have to inspect your feet annually for reactions... Whether you are with a consultant or not... There are 15 basic things that your gp MUST do if you are diabetic.... And annual feet checks are one of them. Are you getting your eyes checked annually?
Yeah I did get calling the hospital and they said they can't make appointments over the phone :/ they said I would be sent one out but 4 weeks later I'm still waiting..I do still get dizzy when rising from a chair but it isn't as bad as from bed..yes my gp has ruled out vertigo but doesn't do any checks just the usual stuff like heart rate and blood pressure..I can't sleep with lots of pillows as I can't get comfortable I have to sleep pretty flat but then also have to sleep with a pillow underneath my feet due to the swelling I'm at the end of my tether and just feel like I get fobbed off all the time but thank you for your help
Hi, I have Autonomic Neuropathy, and was similar to you, with postural hypotension, sickness, vomiting etc, I take Fludrocortisone , and I took an unlicensed drug called midrodene which stabilised the low blood pressure and helped the symptons.
Ask your GP to do the 5 minute blood pressure test, sounds exactly the same as I had your blood pressure on standing drops causing the dizziness and sickness, don't get fobbed off, it Is an awful condition. X
