I thought mine was something to do with an injection site but after 4 months I soon realised it's not and it's been nearly a year! I think mine started when I had an infection on my foot which was also funny! and I too sit for a long period of time at work! And I would life to exercise but it just causes too much pain!Hey Nicola. I'm sorry to hear about your pain due to sciatica. My first post here was about this also and I freaked out because I thought it was neuropathy instead but my doctor assured me it's not that but rather sciatica.
I'm also due a scan on my lower back. My entire left leg feels tingly (dull ache sometime) right down into my feet and sometimes it feels as if I have to drag it. I have good days and bad days. Mine may have come about due to my job which involves sitting for extended periods of time so I'm trying to exercise more in an attempt to get rid of it. Hopefully the scan will shed some light on this.

I understand sciatica is complex and everyones case is different. I know how much this can affect someone and you are not alone. I wish you all the best
Hello, I know the MRI is good but im sooo scared, as I have metal in my ankle! My GP told me I couldn't have one but the person at whipps cross says I can and I'm just worried now! And yeah I do get up and walk about well hobble about as much as possible! This is just so horrible I hate it! And wish it would just end now!Hello Nicola Anne,
I remember your posts and I'm really pleased you're having the MRI.
Yes, sciatica can get worse, but it depends on the exact problem. Because you may walk and move more awkwardly with one-sided pain this may affect more parts of the body as you put different strains on, say, your calf.
A neurologist told me the worst thing you can do with a bad back is to drive, followed by sitting anywhere for a long period. As PLO said, exercise is good for desk bound people. So getting up and just walking around for even a minute or so every so often will help considerably. Exercise should be gentle.
And as Totsy says, hydrotherapy and physio. are good; massage too. But a hot bath and self massage of that leg and hip are also helpful and may be easier to come by!
Good luck,
Jane.
I haven't started physio therapy yet I have that next month! Co-codamol hardly works and im just so fed up and in pain and I can barely walk and I sit at a desk from 9-5:30Regarding excercise, I was told by a physio to go swimming, but this made me worse. Gentle walking is the best thing to do. Sleep with a pillow between your knees. And try to lie on your side during the day rather than sitting also helps. You can also get a cushion to sit on that is shaped like a wedge which helps with your alighnment (still use mine). Hope this helps. I never thought I would survive it, but did
I will look into a chiropractor after I have seen my surgeon again I guess! See what they say! And I will look into these other things too!If you can afford to see a chiropractioner I would recommend you go straight away to one, as they are private there's no waiting lists. I also sit at a desk 8 and hours a day. Many of my colleagues also go to chiroprationers rather than physio as it works much more affectively. When I first went mine also gave me accupunctor which releived the pain (may sound scary but it was great). You should speak to health and safety etc at work to assess your work station, as this may need adjusting to improve matters. I was on stronger meds, but it never helped, just made feel out of control and floaty. Believe me, if you get the right sort of treatment it can improve vastly (I do not get re-occurances very often these days, and originally put up with the pain for about 3 years before I sort better treatment)

Hellooo!!
I have done numerous of posts before about my sciatica and well apart from being sent for an MRI at the end of March (which im freaking out about) and physio at the end of April, I seem to be in more and more pain! Not only does my right buttock and thigh hurt along with my lower back (occasionally) My calf muscle now hurts so much that its even harder to walk!I have been given 15/500 cocodamol/codipar it helps a little bit but not alot! I was just wondering is it possible for sciatica to get worse!!??

When I had sciatica many years ago I learned to do various back bending exercises but lying on my back or front so the spine is not taking any weight. You will almost certainly have a spinal disk that is misbehaving and very gentle flexibility exercise can sometimes help get it back in place and healed. However, sometimes some surgery is necessary so it's good that you are having an MRI
