They studied U.S. Department of Agriculture nutritional data from both 1950 and 1999 for 43 different vegetables and fruits, finding “reliable declines” in the amount of protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, riboflavin (vitamin B2) and vitamin C over the past half century. Davis and his colleagues chalk up this declining nutritional content to the preponderance of agricultural practices designed to improve traits (size, growth rate, pest resistance) other than nutrition.''

When manufacturers/growers websites list the nutrients of their product it should be accurate for the current goods they sell or they are probably breaking the Trades Description Act. If it says 5% vitamin C then that is what it should be as an average.
 
There was a programme on regarding veg and fruit relating it back to the nutrition in 1918. It will take me a while to find links. Will see what I can find.
 
Around the corner from my house is a privately run and owned allotment. If you join as an associate member you can buy produce at a discounted price from their allotment shop much better than buying from a supermarket.
 
Well, I'm glad I don't eat any fruit, veg or plants, given how depleted the soil they're grown is.

well meat is higher in the food chain and would probably deliver more pollution to the ones eating it don´t you think that would be the logical conclusion
 
I think the best approach is to eat a balanced diet. Too much of anything isn't good for our bodies really.
 
If I thought all those things were true I would eat differently. But don't worry about me - I've never been healthier in my life. The term "balanced diet" is really not very helpful.

Your diet is the right balance for you. Thats how I understand the term 'balance'

My low carb diet is the right balance for me, but my hubby needs more carbs to get his balance.

none of us on here seem to eat the foods which the eatwell plate and nhs say is balanced, because its the wrong balance for us.

'balance' is a subjective term in my view. and learning about your balance has encouraged me to eat more protein and ignore the 5 a day mantra, so far its helping with my bloods : )

as one who was brainwashed to the nhs idea of balance, it has taken courage and support for me to move away from the idea of loads of starch, veg and low-fat, and into exploring my correct balance.

maybe the raised level of linoleic acid in meat during the last 50 years are one of the causes to the raised levels of inflamation in the general population and maybe that even leading to the raised levels of diabetes...
that could be the explanation why vegetarians and vegans only become diabetic in a much lover rate

funny how all these disturbances happens at the same time
 
Definitely just a coincidence. The animals I eat are a lot fatter than I am.

Is the meat you eat all grass fed? How canyou be sure that the innoculation / jabs these animals are given afen't a problem? How can you. E sure that the meat you eat really has not been given unatural feed?

I get hubbies meat from a butcher, but I'm not convinced that it is grass fed...
Having worked for a farmer I've seen them fed indoors when calving etc wheras normally they would be grass fed.

Yesterday it was said that caged bird eggs have substantially less vit d in them.

I'm genuinely interested as I do everything I can to buy organic veg but some fruit n veg its impossible.. but I guess may be less herbiceded.. ie melon?? I'm just fascinated...
 

but the eggs from chickens living outside has too much dioxins in them on the other hand from air pollution, sad to tell you that, we do eat ecologically produced egg in my home but sadly they are a bit more poisoness than indoor bread chickens egg... because that cadmium is as poisonouss as it in fact is..

maybe the sentence ; "survival of the fittest " will be changed to " No survival of the fattest" and us diabetics ending like a exstinct kind of a human gene-branch
 
Goodness me everyone. All these things can be taken to extremes. If we believed and acted on all this we would never eat again.
 
I doubt that as well. It's the refined carbs and refined veg oils that are the main problems. I reversed my type 2 diabetes by eating lots of red meat and cutting out refined carbs and veg oils.
