SD biosensor codefree on NHS prescription

My GP has prescribed me some test strips from the SD Biosensor Codefree machine I already own, however my pharmacist is having problems obtaining them. What are your experiences in obtaining them on prescription?

Incidentally, my GP attempted to prescribe me some lancets for the lancing device that comes with this meter but doesn't know what to prescribe. I don't suppose anyone here knows? I've asked the pharmacist but he didn't know. I've also asked Home Health UK Ltd but they just said they were generic lancets.

If its the SD Codefree meter then put it into eBay. All the things you require are sold by Home health there.
Home Health sell the lancets and test strips. Lucky you getting a prescription though. I'm not sure your pharmacist will go to eBay to get them..But if you are desperate then that's where to go.

Hello there - allegedly your pharmacist has to order the strips and lancets from the specials area of his order system, with Alliance Healthcare. He should know what that is. Once he has ordered, they'll be there for repeat ordering.

Your statement is plain wrong. Supplies for the SD Codefree are available on prescription. That is a matter of fact. They may not be in most pharmacies usual picks, but trust me they are there.

Thanks for this information. Will be talking to the pharmacist tomorrow. Have them Home Health UK Ltd contact information today so perhaps they'll already know it. Today they offered me a free Accu-chek Mobile machine if they can't work it out. It seems what's cheap and easy for me to buy isn't so easy for a GP & pharmacist to source.
 
The lancets for the Bayer Microlet 2 will also fit in the SD codefree stabber and to me they have finer point than the SD lancets.

PIP code for the Bayer lancets

280-0043 box of 100 lancets
280-0050 box of 200 lancets

I stand corrected.. I haven't been lucky enough to be prescribed one so bought my own. I was just giving some info as to where to get supplies from in case NoughtQAF was in a position to buy some and was keen to get them. I never said they weren't available on prescription.

Thank you for trying to help. I currently buy from Home Health UK Ltd via Amazon. I didn't know they sold through eBay.

They sell through both, and directly from their website. All prices are the same, except if one buys directly from HomeHealth, they offer a discount for buying 5 or 10 pots at a time, roughly equating to buy 5, but pay for 4.

They're a nice business and easy to deal with.
 
The Code free strips do have a PIP code and are available through NHS prescription but the price when I last looked
Was the same as Home health. The finger pricker will take any lancet as long as it's not Accuchek or Delica.

The price on prescription is the same as their standard retail price, but to my knowledge, that's still cheaper than the NHS pay for the other commonly prescribed strips. Clearly the benefits to the OP of obtaining his trips on prescription are two fold; Continuity of equipment/results with a regime he is familiar with and gentler on the pocket. Even if the OP doesn't hold an exemption certificate, it is unlikely his doctor will only prescribe one pot at a time.
 
I am in the process of being diagnosed. Well to be frank, I have been told I have diabetes but they're uncertain as to what form it is currently. I was investigated because I had an intuition that I had developed it based on the experience of growing up in a household with diabetics. So I researched and bought the SD Biosensor Codefree machine and started testing. My blood sugars ranged between 15 and 30. Took a weeks worth of results to my GP and was tested there and given a diagnosis. When they prescribed the Metformin I took the opportunity to ask for strips and lancets. They asked what machine I was using and prescribed for that. I have yet to have the prescription fulfilled because the pharmacist is struggling hence this thread. Cost wise to me NHS prescription is free to me so, while SD strips and lancets are the cheapest, free is better than cheap. If the pharmacist continues to claim problems in fulfilling the prescription they've offered me an Accu-chek machine for free.
 
The result of all this was that my pharmacist was unable to fulfil the prescription for the SD meter. I got a free Accu-chek Mobile from Roche. I have a prescription for the cassettes and lancets for this. However I wish that they could have fulfilled the prescription as I much prefer the SD meter and seemingly unlike many people here I also prefer the lancing device that came with the SD over the Accu-chek Fastclix! Thank you everyone for your support and information.
