Having recently come off the gliclazide I have now got to self fund my testing. I won't go into the stupidity of this, after all how do they think I got control of my bgs, but to say I am not happy is an understatement.
Anyhow, I have reverted back to the SD Codefree as the strips a million times cheaper, but I am finding it is usually at least 1mmol higher than my nexus (which I like a lot and wish I could still use other than for the occasional comparison test.)

What I wanted to know was whether it was wise to just assume my levels are 1mmol less than the machine tells me, or just accept the numbers for what they are try to reduce them?
I have a TEE2 on it's way too as I thought I'd compare both of the cheap options.

My Codefree always reads about 1mmol higher than hubbys Nexus. I am happy to accept that. I don't worry too much and only compare if I get an unexpected reading.
That is so short sighted of your health practice. Mine are the same .. as I'm unmedicated they don't supply meter and strips.. where this should be a positive reason for them to do so.. so we can keep off meds !

On the one hand I'm glad I'm saving the NHS money as well as getting my health in order, but I do wonder whether in the long term it would be financially beneficial to replace the money saved from the drugs with more test strips so that the good control can continue.

Many people on the forum report that the Codefree reads a bit higher than other meters, and also the Tee2 reads much the same as the Codefree. I wouldn't assume anything. I would stick to the Codefree because of the cheaper strips and test more regularly. At the end of the day you don't need accurate figures when unmedicated. You just need trends, and your Codefree will show you these trends just as well as any other meter.

I have tested and used the SD and I have tested the TEE2 and they are very similar. The lancing devices are identical so I saw the TEE2 as the SD Mk2. The TEE2 can manage with a smaller drop of blood, 0.5 ml instead of 0.9 for the SD and it needs two batteries instead of one but, as I say, they are similar.

The TEE2 is available for free as are most of its accessories but you have to buy the strips which are similar in price to the SD.

My DN issued me with an Abbott Freestyle Lite so when I used the SD I used to take 1mmol off the reading so that it compared with the Lite and DN was not confused.

EDIT: I don't have the mu symbol on my keyboard so when you see ml take it to mean micro litre.

I had the preconception that the Tee2 read high...

I also had the preconception that the SD read higher than the tee2.

They both read higher than my accucheck mobile for sure...

That said, I ditched the SD as it wasn't consistent and kept the tee2 as at least it was very consistent.

My recent a1c matched the averages from the tee2 exactly.... Meter over 90 days averaged 5.8 and my a1c at 34 equates to an average of 5.8

Ive since also ditched the accucheck and now exclusively use the tee2, the customer service from Spirit is first class.
