Hi,
I was recently abroad on holidays and had a seizure in my sleep due to low blood sugar. My partner was there and phoned the hotels doctor. He came and just observed me and after a short while I came out of the seizure and was able to take some hypo treatment. I am just wondering has this happened to anyone else. I have never had a bad hypo like this before and have been a type 1 diabetic for 11 years. It has really frightened me and am paranoid about going to sleep with a blood sugar that is even within range in case it drops during the night. Also any advice on what this means for driving and my license?
 
Were you drinking that evening by any chance?

Best thing to do would be an overnight BGL checks to make sure you're not dropping low during the night. Dawn phenomenon may be bringing your blood glucose up to a reasonable value when you wake up and test, but you may be pretty low overnight.

Try going to bed with a higher than normal BGL for three nights, work out your average drop and then you can adjust your pre-bed BGL so that you wake within a safe and respectable 4-7mmol/L.

For your driving license, I think it will be revoked if you require external assistance for two or more nocturnal hypos in a year. I've read this somewhere, but cannot find it just now. There is hot debate on this now because the European Commission is requesting that the DVLA review their rules for nocturnal hypos.
