I have seen a few threads on here where it seems to imply that being given the strips and testing machine is not standard practice? I was diagnosed on Friday and was give loads of boxes of strips, a brand new machine and various other bits and pieces. Is this not standard then? I assume that when these run out I will be given more?

It depends on the attitude of your doctor/nurse. I would think if you have been given strips at the start, you will be given more in future, you might like to check how many your doctor is willing to prescribe though.

this is just my personal experience it does not mean your gp will be the same when I was first diagnosed for the first 3 months I was allowed 100 strips per month, as I was newly diagnosed and needed to find out which foods caused a spike.
I was told my doctor to keep a food diary and test after every meal at 1 and 2 hours after.
after this initial 3 months when I had learned what foods had the biggest impact on my bg, I was then told I would only be allowed 2 strips per week however 2 per week is not enogh for me I like to test at least once per day so I buy my own strips.
it is cheaper to buy off ebay.
as the previous poster said it would be a good idea to discuss with your doctor how many strips they are willing to prescribe.
