I've been asked by the diabetic nurse where i go will i try a "blood sugsr sensor." I alledgedly have to wear it for 72 hours and it monitors 24/7. Does anyone know about these as it states that it has to be "fitted", or can anyone give me any further info please.

Hazey!!!!

Hi Hazey,

Don't really know a great deal about the sensor, but in my local health authority it is used by the diabetes clinic prior to a patient going on a insulin pump.

Hi all, just an update. I'm going to have the sensor fitted next Tuesday as they want to know what's going on. No change as yet and if anything it's getting worse, averages are know between 25 - 27 for the 7, 14 and 30 day range.

Regards

sounds like a CGM which takes a reading every 5 mins, often used with pumps but not always :)

Hi all just an update. I had the meter fitted yesterday and it has to be returned next Monday. Gave me this A1 bag to put it in for when i'm in the shower and as soon as i stepped in it it feel out into the bath  , also the waterproof plaster that was over the sensor came off as well  . Talk about things not going well at present!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry just needed to talk!

Hazey,

As I stated in my previous reply, don't know a great deal about them. My understanding was that you could shower or bath and as long as the meter is within a certain range it will still recieve the signal; have I heard this wrong?

Hi Noble, I don't think it's that you're wrong, I've been fitted with an old meter (size of a brick ) and I was told that it has to remain on at all times, the modern ones are probably like what you say and you can remove them for limited amounts of time. It's just that it's not been a great start with it, trying to get hold of some more of the so called waterproof plasters as we speak and a bag that it doesn't fall out of when i'm in the shower.

Hazey,

Good luck with finding those items. I was talking to my dsn who had tried one herself for 72 hours, almost certain I can remember her saying that it doesn't have to worn all the time, provided you were within xxxxx distance of meter.

It may well have been a modern version, perhaps that is why she had been trying it out.
