Ignorant people,
Hi all im a little worried as i go to see the nurse tomorrow, last time i went she upset me with her sarcastic remark about my weight loss. I have been back on the scales today and have lost 5 lbs since my last visit to her. What im worried about is that the doctor sent me for some blood tests and 1 of the results came back with a note attached for me to see the doctor something to do with my serum lipids .. I know my cholesterol is high as im already on 40mg simvastatin .. Does anyone know what the problem maybe or have any idea as what might be wrong i know none of you like to diagnose but a clue will do me ...Thanks

Sandra

Hi Sandra

No, we can't diagnose, but if you let us know what your results are we can compare with our own.

Make sure you ask for a full breakdown of the results - I always get a print-out from my doctor which includes total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. I also have a total:HDL ratio, but some people get a triclycerides:HDL ratio. Basically, you want as much info as you can get, and don't be afraid to ask your doctor/nurse if you're not sure about something. They're your lipids!

Also ask whether they've improved or got worse, and ask for figures - don't be put off with 'they're okay' ! You can't work to improve things if you don't know what's going on.

Post tomorrow with your results, and we'll all try to help. Good luck!

And well done on the weight loss. Keep going!

Hi Viv,
well i went to see the nurse and she was well pleased with my weight loss in total since diagnosed i have lost 1kg. She couldnt understand why the receptionist told me there was a problem with my serum lipids as they are fine. I do have a problem though with my kidneys and liver so have to see the doctor on his return from holiday i did have an appointment for wednesday but who ever booked my appointment had booked me in at another surgery the doctors have 2 practices.. So im still no wiser really what is the matter and the blood tests i had on the 26th well they forgot to do the hba1c so had to have yet another blood test today. I will post when i eventually find out what is or is not wrong with me ...Oh 1 other thing my blood pressure was 130/88 so no pills for high blood pressure.

Sandra

That sounds very positive, Sandra, and you too do!

I'm glad the nurse said your serum lipids were okay, and try not to worry about the kidneys and liver until you've seen the doctor. If your system is anything like ours, the print-out flags up anything outside the lab's normal range in red ink. At our place the receptionist automatically calls me in to see the doc without discussing it with him first. I've had a couple of slightly elevated readings in the past, but it's all sorted now.

Make the most of your GP appointment and don't forget to ask him to explain everything.

Pity about the HbA1c - I should weigh at least akilo less, the amount of blood they've taken out of me!

PS great blood pressure!

Hi Everyone,

Had my appoinment with the Doctor today to discuss recent blood tests as was informed that there may be a problem with Kidney & Liver well im happy to tell you that my Kidney & liver is in perfect working order. I have reduced my cholesterol so im now on 20mmg simvastatin rather than the 40mg, he has put me on metformin 1 500mg a day for the next 2 wks then if no side effects i will be taking 2x500mg a day. The doctor is happy with the weight loss and he also said to lose the weight slowly . So im well happy today and hubby is happy that im happy ....Plus the sun has come out today and i think when the sun is shining people seem more happy .... Have a good day everyone and thanks Viv i did take all you information in and it helped, oh and 1 other thing when i joined the site i filled in the form to see if could win a meter and 1 won 1 whooo hooo lol :o :)

Well done, Sandra. Now see if you can sweetheart your GP for some test strips on prescription

The sun is a great morale-booster - don't forget it's good for your Vit D levels as well, so take the time to enjoy it!
