i was wondering if any other type 1s experience severe muscle cramping in every part of there body i get these cramps if my blood sugar even goes slightly over 8 or 9 and i cant find out a cause i dont have neuropathy and im told motor neuropathy is painless i do experience sezuire like episodes but it think that is dystonia but my neuro dosent seem to think it is the cause of all my body cramping and pain my hba1c is 4.5 so it is near perfect i mean i have more low readings than highs and when i do experience these highs im getting short of breathe and severe body cramping and stiffness all throughout my muscles it is very upsetting and worrying just need some advice thanks

Can't say I have. If your on a statin some people complain of cramping as a side-effect of taking the med, have you consulted a Dr about your problem?

I've been getting nocturnal leg cramps recently and found that taking magnesium supplements has helped. Might be worth asking GP to check your electrolytes.

Ryan, if you are type 1 and insulin dependent, yr hba1c of 4.5% is not good and you need to get yr bg levels higher so that yr hba1c increases. All these hypo seizures are sll caused through low bg levels. What on earth does yr consultant at hospital say......I hope that yr care is not GP based? Its difficult to know what causes muscle cramps as it could be due to many things but apart from having bloodtests done, try altering yr insulin doses with the food you eat and mske yr bg go a bit higher. You may find that the muscle cramps change.

Yeha I know.it's not good my diabetic consultant says it's perfect :/ but i don't know.what to do could the full body cramps be neuropathy? I have no.tingling or numbness just awful shortness of breathe dizziness and severe cramps

I get very bad muscle cramping in my upper back and neck, and mid back when my sugar is really high (high 8s or more ). Most of my back is knotted as well, to the point that my wife has to use an elbow to have any effect of loosening it at all.

If I keep myself down around the mid-5s I get very little tightness, and in the high 4s, my back is loose.

I also found that when my potassium is low, I get some bad neck/ shoulder cramps. Had very back neck cramps a couple weeks back, read a few articles and for the heck of it, as a test, I ate about 2 cups of raw broccoli, and within 30 mins I was feeling better, and 2 hours later cramping was gone. I watch my potassium intake closer now.
