After the initial shock of diagnosis, I have read Professor Roy Taylor’s ‘Reversing Type 2 Diabetes’ book which was amazing. I am going to speak to my doctor on Friday about trying the 8-12 week fast weight loss to avoid taking medication. Does anyone have a recommendation for meal replacement shakes during phase 1 of the 800calories a day. I don’t think I can manage making meals. Huel have come up is that the right thing? Thanks

Personally I've used the Slimfast Keto ones, but you do need to plan what you're going to transition to after you finish your VLCD as that's where a lot of people end up back at square one very quickly

Thanks for the tag, @lovinglife.
@ForMyGirls , It is a long time now since I used the meal replacement shakes. I don’t think the programme I used is still available. It was Lipotrim Total Food replacement.

If I was going to use the method again I would look for the carb content prior to making a decision. The keto slimfast product suggested by @lessci look as though they are the lowest available. Though some GPs in some areas can provide NHS versions.

I would also point out that the Very Low Calorie Diets are not a quick fix’ and the Newcastle diet recommendation that people tend to miss is that there needs to be a follow on eating plan. If people return to the previous way of eating then they will gain weight and probably negate any benefits to their blood glucose that the VLCD had provided.

@Pipp yes, I understand the phase 2 is to gradually reintroduce normal food and then eat significantly less than before. I am hoping for more information at my NHS appointment but there just seems to be so much on the market and I’m not sure what is good and what has good marketing but may not be as safe/effective

I would check the carb content of the products. The meal replacements I used had (from memory) around 15 g of carbs per serving. With 3or 4 of these a day the maximun carbs per day were 60g.
Bear in mind the current Newcastle diet also recommends vegetables, so the carbs from those need to be added to the total.
