Just this time last year I came off all prescription drugs for my Type 2 because of the gut related problems from Metformin. The Diabetic specialist did want me to stay on the METFORMIN, but that was the main reason for getting off tablets, so I just took insulin. ( I had been with Lantus for several months already) At this time I had severe muscle pain as the after effects of cholesterol treatments and was unable to check for breast lumps, so was dismayed to be diagnose with early post menopausal breast cancer in May. At the post op discussion I elected to have the more expensive drug - Anastrozole- instead of the newest METFORMIN !!!!!! BUT the research does find that Metformin is suppressing breast and colon cancers so it could have been worth persevering with, But not by me - I'll take my chances as the few tablets of Anastrozole were as wicked as the Statins and have left me with tarsal tunnel syndrome!!!. I Treat my Cholesterol and blood pressure with herbals an as much exercise as possible, and hope to keep out of surgeries except for reviews this year. The cancer can come back early if it wants to invade as I will still be young enough to cope with the surgery. Apart from the feet I am pain free and in charge of my diabetes, It does not control me any more!!
