Sharps disposal in Haringey, North London. Advice please!

Hello all. I'm a Type 2 on insulin living in Haringey Borough in North London. It seems from my enquiries that the only way to dispose of my full sharps bins is to use the collection service operated by Veolia on behalf of Haringey Council.

I'm loathed to carry on using their service as it's so unreliable and unpredictable. My first bin took several months to arrive, and the subsequent collection happened a week before it was booked to and I wasn't in. Veolia's advice if I'm not going to be in? Leave it in the front garden! A full sharps bin!

I would much prefer to drop my full bins somewhere myself, but it seems that in Haringey you can't take them to doctor's surgeries, chemists or hospitals, as I believe you can elsewhere in the country. You can only use this rather chaotic service.

Does anybody else have problems disposing of their sharps in this area? Any recommendations as to what else I can do?

Don't live in Haringey but what's wrong with leaving sharps bin outside. I haven't had my first one collected yet but fully intend to leave it out for them to pick up.

I'd be interested to hear whether or not your bin is picked up by the regular refuse collection. I assume that the clinical waste collection service (such as it is) exists to minimise the risk of infection to waste collection staff dealing with clinical and hazardous waste.

Hi This is standard across Britain. I get my bins on prescription from my gp or using a pump direct from them so don't have to wait for one to be delivered. I put mine out the night before they collect. Again it is erratic

District council organises it. I assume the service is sub contracted out but no idea who to, I only phone the council.

UPDATE

Having spoken a couple of pharmacies in Haringey, it seems that Haringey policy changed a year ago, and now all needle users must use the Veolia-run council service, which as I've mentioned, is awful.

And yes, I'm formulating a complaint about the service to Haringey Council and will seek their reasoning for changing the service.
