Shingles help

I'm a one to one tutor and the sister of one of my pupils has shingles. Mom let me know today and asked if I want to cancel. I would prefer not to as I don't have any contact with this young girl, and her brother, (my pupil) mostly refuses to attend the sessions which are at home. If I don't go I don't get paid but I know my health is worth more than money. How much of a risk is this? I don't have any other health issues apart from T2.

Shingles is unpleasant but not as bad as having Covid. I had shingles in my early teens, but the other three siblings didn't catch it, even though one shared a bedroom with me. You need to make up your own mind, but you could ask the household to have windows open while you are in the house.
 
While I agree it is not certain that you will catch shingles, I am not sure about comparing shingles with covid. I have had both and shingles was worse but for others it could be the other way around.
When I got shingles, my partner did not. When I got COVID, he did not catch it the first time but he did the second time.
 
You can’t catch shingles from someone with shingles. You can however get chickenpox. So have you had chicken pox? If so you should be safe.

Thank you all for replying. I've had chickenpox years ago when I was little (I'm 60 now). I've had a look at the NHS website link thanks Rachox. I'll plan to go and hope his Mom cancels tomorrow then I'll get paid anyway!
