Shivering but not a hypo

Type of diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed as diabetic last year and use insulin, so I am still getting used to managing the condition. I have a question about shivering and would like to know whether it is diabetes related (I will see the diabetic nurse in 2 weeks but I am concerned now). I would welcome any feedback.

Since Christmas I have experienced short (10 mins - 1 hour) bouts of shivering any time of the day but particularly when I am tired. I can lie under the duvet, warm, yet shuddering. Blood glucose levels are elevated at 7-10. I have not have a hypo since mid December when I had a cold.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Rather than wait 2 weeks to see the diabetes nurse (who in all likelihood will say to see your Dr about the shivering) your better just booking an appointment now at your gp surgery.

I've not experienced this and can't possibly say if it's diabetes related or not, but as these shivering episodes are causing you concern I'd get checked out sooner rather than later. Good luck.

I suspect it is not the diabetes, although I have veen told that all illnesses usually arisefrom it. It is likely to take 2 weeks to see my GP so I will have to suffer with this fpr a while.

You need your thyroid checking. Let us know how you get on at gp.

Call go surgery and ask if gp will allow a thyroid blood test to be done, mention you have diabetes when you do. Let me know how you get on.

Thank you for your suggestion to check my thyroid. I was checked for an underactive thyroid last year but was given the all clear despite many classic symptoms. A false positive perhaps. I shall add it to my list og things to raise with my GP.

It took several tries to detect my failed thyroid - then when it was picked up the doctor frightened me almost to death by starting the consultation with the words 'It's serious' - when what it has turned out to be is take these pills every day and you'll be fine. I had quite a few tests which showed normal and then suddenly my thyroid stimulating hormone was several thousand times higher than it should be and my thyroid hormone levels miniscule, so it needs to be tested just at the right time. It took years to get the diagnosis.
