I am going to go shopping and get some stuff in for starting lcfh diet - no time like the present! Please can you have a look and check that I am on the right lines!
Avocado, cauli, broc, onion, toms, olives, cabbage, aubergine, mushrooms, asparagus, spinach cucumber, courgette, lettuce, berries, leeks, peppers
Cream, cheese (goats, feta), full fat yog, full fat milk, butter, mayo (know I need to check sugar - is hellmans full fat OK?)
Meat, fish (is smoked fish OK too?), coconut milk, eggs, pesto, nuts (I am guessing NOT roasted and salted?), pesto.

Some of the meal ideas that I have thought of...
omelette, bacon and egg, greek salad, goats cheese salad, steak and creamed spinach, berries and yog or cream, quiche with a ham crust, courgette with pesto or bolognaise (home made), kebabs, lamb kofta, mussaka (with aubergine layers and no potato), stuffed peppers, peanut butter on cucumber, cauli mash, smoked marcel, chicken with cheese and bacon....

Again thanks so much for answering my questions!

Yes, it looks as though you are very much on the right lines. :)

Helmans is my choice of bought mayo, so you are fine there.
Smoked fish is fine.
You can go roasted and salted on the nuts, but nothing to excess, eh? If you can't stop, then perhaps better not start. voice of experience, lol.

Here you go - everything on those food lists is fine. :)

Are you likely to crave sweet stuff? Lots of us do, especially in the early days. If so, maybe factor in some sweet treats.
Low carb hot choc (you will need cocoa powder, cream or coconut cream and a sweetener, I can give you the recipe later if you like)
sugarfree jelly and cream often hits the spot too
most of our blood glucose is fine with a couple of squares of 70% choc. it is an acquired taste, but you acquire it surprisingly quickly. :D

Thanks for the reply. I keep thinking of all the things I can eat & enjoy which I have denied myself for so long! I can't even remember what full fat yogurt tastes like!! Rather than thinking of what I can't have - that seems to work quite well for me.

Milk can be quite carby though, I use soya milk which has very few carbs (make sure it is unsweetened) for coffee i do half and half with double cream.. yum..

Cream in coffee has been such a joy with LCHF! Someone said to me don't buy salted nuts as they are a bit too moreish, and I know I would eat more and more.
Look on the LCHF recipe threads and the what have you eaten today threads for some great ideas.
I love mousakka and do not miss the spuds in it, but I do make a good cheese sauce by mixing an egg into yoghurt and them add cheese. The egg thickens the sauce as it cooks and it goes so well on mousakka. I also make something similar from a recipe a German friend gave me. Layer up raw seasoned mince, cabbage and the cheesy yoghurt egg sauce. Cook for an hour and it is delicious.
Good luck with you new regime.

Your list looks delicious and very much along the right lines. My only comment would be not to go too mad to start with, as there a lot on that list and will you get through it all whilst it is at its best?

I'm no great fan of supermarket shopping, but there's something to be said for planning your meals for a few days, shopping for those, the repeat with the next few days meals.

We have always planned our meals several days ahead. I don't eat "Monday = leftovers, Tuesday = faux cottage pie" and so on, but just knowing we have food in for 3 or 4 days eases the constant decision making that three seems to be in the early days.

You'll soon settle into it all. :)

I agree on both points - my first reaction was: great list but perhaps not all at once! :D

Consider swapping the milk for a nut or soya version instead (I use Alpro Almond unsweetened), and if you enjoy dark chocolate, maybe add a bar of a high (75%+) cocoa brand for a little treat. A single piece will fit quite nicely into even a very low carb diet.

And a useful tip - supermarkets' online stores will often include full nutritional data for the food and drinks they sell, so it's worth checking before you shop as it can save time - and possible mistakes; I know both Waitrose and Tesco include this info. I used to check this way while I was learning what was OK to buy, and still do it if I'm unsure about something different.

I've always eaten full fat yoghurt, having once tried the plain low fat stuff which was to me like eating watery chalk. The only concession I would ever make to eating low fat anything was using skimmed milk.

Robbity

And PS@ I do like your positive approach Bron - it's the way I looked at low carbing too - I'd no longer be "chastised" for choosing to eat full fat foods. :D

Thanks guys. Going get enough for 2 days & take it from there. Will post my food in the tread about that. I'm so nervous! I feel like I'm being 'bad'. I've been brain washed for too long!!!

Your list looks fabulous And I bet you cannot wait to start eating those lovely meals....

I look forward to hearing about your enjoyment of the food, your weightloss and your improving BS results xx

You are definitely on the right track with those food selections so great to see someone do their homework

Felt sick with nerves going round tesco - apart from the veg it's all stuff I avoid like the plague!

Yep but it takes less time as you only have to travel round the outside of the Supermarket and not venture into aisles of processed foods :-).
