I tuned 50 in July of this year, I had no idea how much sugar is made from pastas and rice etc, I had always thought of them as a healthy meal until T2 hit me 2 weeks ago.....

Hindsight my Dad was almost 83 before he passed away, I can categorically say, he had never eaten pasta or rice in his whole life.

Just can’t believe I had no knowledge of this, so the taming of the tastebuds and learning over again which foods are good for me xx

It is a huge learning curve, isn't it? Five months from diagnosis and I am still checking and rechecking the carb counts. DDon't feel bad about it, we have been a bit brainwashed into thinking what is and what isn't a healthy diet. You live and learn.

It gets easier - I've been on a low carb with healthier fats way of eating for more than two years now. The first month or two were dreadful for cravings and problems/ confusion with planning meals - then one day you realise it has become just what you do and it doesn't occur to you to look at all the processed carb filled foods. Then, s few months after that, you find yourself thinking 'yuck no thanks' when offered a slab of cake, chips or normal pizza.

Honest... it takes a while but it's even happened to my husband!

I take half a cauliflower and steam it, then when it is still really hot put it on a hot plate with cream and grated cheese on top - I like red Leicester - cover it over and wait until the cheese melts. Much better than pasta.
I do, and did, the Atkins diet - that has been around for decades, and all Dr A got was derision and his way of eating is labelled a fad diet. People gleefully point out that his weight was high when he died - but after being pumped full of fluids as his organs failed what else was to be expected?
Just think how many people have suffered unnecessarily because all the evidence for low carbing has been ignored for so long.

I always thought that rice and pasta was good for me also
Now I go by 10g or less carbohydrates per 100g rule which works for me
I’m T2 also
I break the rule occasionally but hay ho

Oh I broke the rule a little last night, had some dark choc on top of berries and Greek yoghurt and ohhhhh am I suffering today, woke up with a huge head and neck ache ... still fasting bloods were 9.7 so they are still coming down .... confusion dotcom lol

I used to have yoghurt and berries for breakfast but I wasn't too happy with my bg so I switched to having it as a pudding after my main meal and hey presto no spike. Sometimes you just have to tweak things a bit.
