My hubby has early dementia and heart disease and has just had his health check following blood tests. Nurse said "something about diabetes" but cant recall whether good or bad .Have just taken his levels on two separate meters one read 9.5 and one read 9.2 this was 2.5 hours post meal and that was roast meat veg and greens so nothing over carby or sweet. Thing is did heart check nurse recall that bloods were fasting bloods so probably lower than everyday average
Plan to ring nurse in the morning but wondering what forum members make of this ?:(
It was heart clinic
as not known as diabetic

First thing ... Don't worry ..
Second .. Do ring your Dr for the full numbers ... It sounds like he is going to be diabetic with the 9. But you really need to talk to your Dr about this ..
Readings .. Do you have a pre meal reading ? If he started high then the meal may not be to blame ..
I have heart problems and my HFN will have nothing to do with my diabites .. Like wise my DN will have nothing to do with my heart failoure .. supid I know .. And some times it's the same girl I see for both :banghead::banghead::bag:

Hi,

Yes, try not to worry. Ask the nurse for a print out of the results, then you will have them in your possession and can peruse them at leisure, and compare them with any future tests.

Presumably the heart clinic will be writing to your GP who SHOULD call your husband in for an HbA1c test, but in case he doesn't, I would make him an appointment to see his GP and ask for an HbA1c. Then you know where you stand.

Just remembered hubby has the shakes this morning same as i get when going hypo but didnt pay it much attention as hes not diabetic

T2 and dementia seem to go hand in hand. If it was me, I'd seriously look at a low carb ketogenic diet, as there is data that it is both good for dementia and BG..and it's free

coconut oil is supposed to be a very good fuel for the brain

ketogenic LCHF diet. it’s a long page and a few videos

the general target is..
Blood glucose ranges for type 2 diabetes
•Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
•2 hours after meals: under 8.5 mmol/l

I agree with @jack412

Earlier this year, the whole family were disheartened when my father (82) was tentatively given a pre-dementia diagnosis.

His fogginess after food prompted me to do a finger prick test on him, and his blood glucose was higher than mine after a low carb meal. we have a strong family history of type 2.

Since then he has been testing regularly and low carbing.
his blood glucose levels are lower.
and his mind is MUCH sharper.

Please let us know how you and he get on.

Fasting bloods gave 4.5 but after 16 hours fast not suprised .Having difficulty getting him to see gp. Dns at practice says see how it goes and see doc if you are worried
Two hours after lunch yesterday he was 7.5 but had just done hilly dog walk so still concerned

Is he on a LCHF diet or eating carbs .. If he happy to have the finger tests .. Then do try him with the LCHF ...it could reduce his readings while you are waiting to see his Dr ..
