Should I bother with a fasting glucose test?

I do not have diabetes
I am quite frustrated and need some advice. I have a health check from work each year with one of the tests being glucose. Every time I have the test the results come back over 7.0 (this time it was 7.5). 5they keep referring me to my GP for a fasting glucose test which comes back normal. I'm getting a bit frustrated as either the test that work does is a nonesense or my GP is wrong.
could someone help please?

My mum and all her side of family have type2 and I had gestational diabetes 15 years ago. I am not over weight. I am reluctant to go back to my GP as I feel I'm wasting their time.

Normal fasting bg covers a multitude of un-normal blood glucose unfortunately.

What you should do is to ask your GP for a tolerance test, OGTT, oral glucose tolerance test.

And a test called HbA1c.

Cutting down or carbohydrates might be a good idea, but have the tests first.

When are your work tests in relation to when you last ate anything?

I last ate about 2.5 hours before the test. I did tell the nurse I hadn't fasted and she said normal blood glucose shout be about 6.0.

odds are you are at least prediabetic and it's the 2.5hr left over from the meal. I'd play safe and tell the Dr next time you see him.
it may be time you got yourself a glucose meter and see if you can get the fasting 7 down

Thank you so much for your very helpful advice. I found the web link REALLY helpful; it really explained a lot about the condition so thank you that. I will see my GP and will ask for more in-depth tests so I can finally understand what I'd happening.

Again thank you.
