Hi my name is Charlie, I have 19 month old twin girls and the eldest is worrying me a little. She is excessively thirsty all the time constantly asking me for more juice and will drink her brother and sisters juice aswell if it is not put up thats 3 cups at a time. She is weeing alot i have to change her nappy every hour to hour and a half they are full to bursting! but is this due to drinking so much? and she has itchy skin she is constantly scratching the top of her chest, back and bottom of her back and as soon as i take her clothes off she will instantly start scratching. Do you think i should get her checked or am i being a parnoid mum?

Get her checked. it will ease your mind, mums know best anyway. It may be nothing but better to be safe.

Hi Charlie,

As a mother you get a feeling when something is not right with your child. Your little girl might not have diabetes but might be suffering from loads of other things from intollerances to a skin allergy but I think you would be wise to have her checked out. Even if it turns out to be nothing it will set your mind at rest and where children are concerned I don't think you can be too careful.

My daughter suffered from loads of symptons from tiredness, mouth ulcers, rashes etc... Our doctor was great and tested her for everything under the sun! It finally turned out that she was intollerant to yeast and lactose and we have now dealt with the problem and things have vastly improved so it is not alway the worst case senario! :D

Good luck and keep us updated.

Please take your little girl to the doctor as those symptoms could very well be diabetes and if it is she needs to be seen as soon as possible. When you book the appointment explain to the receptionist so that you can get her seen today if possible. In the meantime give her sugar free liquids to drink and don't limit her drinking, allow her to drink as much as she needs to. It may be nothing to worry about but a doctors visit will at the least set your mind at rest. Excessive thirst was one of the major symptoms which concerned me when my daughter was taken to the GP and got diagnosed. I really hope it's nothing and your little girl will be okay :)
