I do not have diabetes
Hi,
Having read up on symptoms I'm worrying I might be diabetic.
I'm often thirsty and drink a lot of water (I'd say 10 pint glasses at least a day), and usually urinate at least once an hour.
Generally fatigued and have low energy, although I would probably put down to depression/anxiety.
I also take antidepressants for the mental health problems, in the same time I have noticed weight gain.
On vision, my vision usually becomes blurry after being outside for an extended period. Don't know if that's significant.
Itching skin; a few months ago I had eczema on my hand, have had some minor itching in groin area but not persistent/major.
Thanks, Matt

HI Matt and welcome to the forum. It sounds as if type 2 diabetes is a possibility. Why don't you get it checked out. If you turn out not be diabetic, great. If you are diabetic, then you can start to deal with it - there's lots of advice on this site, far more than most doctors are likely to give you. And if diabetes is the cause of your various problems, and you do deal with it, you will be a whole new person in a few months time!

Yes, do get an initial blood test done at the GP or even the local pharmacy such as Lloyds. Some of your symptoms could be diabetes. Ref weight gain do have a look at your carb intake and keep them down as this is a common cause of T2 diabetes

Certainly sounds like a trip to the doctor would be a good idea...

Just remember to keep reading this forum - it will give you wider points of view than your surgery!

Hi Matt, welcome. I had similar symptoms, but put off going to a doctor for some years, even though I suspected I had diabetes from reading about my symptoms on the internet. When I finally plucked up the courage to be tested and found out that I had Type 2, I realised how foolish I had been, because earlier detection and treatment can lessen complications. I would definitely advise you to see a doctor and ask for a test. If it turns out that you are not diabetic, then all good. If you are diagnosed as diabetic, then there is so much you can do to regulate blood sugar and avoid complications. I take 2 Metformin per day and try to eat a low carb diet, cutting out all sugar and grain based products, such as bread, pasta, rice etc. I have lost weight and reduced my blood sugar to reasonable, though not perfect, levels. It is the complications of high blood sugars that can be so bad for health, so do see a doctor, just in case.

Thanks for your thoughtful responses.
I've now booked an appointment with a GP for next week.

Glad to hear you have made an appointment, Matt. It does take courage, but better to find out, rather than just worry about the symptoms. Good luck.
