Hi guys.I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 weeks ago with an hba1c of 98.I've been on 2 slow release metformin tablets and started going to the gym ,as well as changing my diet.I had another hba1c test this week and it's down to 71.The doc said that's a great achievement in such a short space of time. I've been invited to a party this weekend in which the alcoholic drinks will be flowing.Shall I still take my metformin before drinking?

Interesting question. The answer is that we aren't medically trained so its a question you should raise with either your GP or DN.

In real life you need to go slow. I've found since diagnosis (and being on Met) that alcohol hits me much harder than it used to. So experiment carefully in a safe environment.

Yes, take your metformin. Metformin is advised against in regular heavy drinkers/alcoholics, but not for an occasional party. Have fun and go slow on the carb heavy drinks and instead opt for diabetes friendlier variants!
